NSE Index Derivative Lot Sizes & P&L Calculation
In Indian derivatives trading, contracts are traded in standardized lot sizes determined by the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). Calculating trade outcomes requires multiplying the price/premium point difference by the total contracted units.
| Index / Underlying | Current Lot Size | Contract Multiplier Example (2 Lots) |
|---|---|---|
| NIFTY 50 Options & Futures | 75 shares / lot | 2 Lots = 150 shares |
| BANK NIFTY Options & Futures | 30 shares / lot | 2 Lots = 60 shares |
| FINNIFTY (Nifty Financial Services) | 65 shares / lot | 2 Lots = 130 shares |
| MIDCPNIFTY (Nifty Midcap Select) | 120 shares / lot | 2 Lots = 240 shares |

How does option premium point difference convert to rupees?
Every 1-point movement in Nifty 50 options equals ₹75 per lot. If you buy a Nifty call option at ₹100 and exit at ₹130, you gain 30 points. For 2 lots (150 units), your gross profit is 30 × 150 = ₹4,500.
